PIRATE

PIRATE, the Piloted Robotic All Terrain Excavator, was the University of Akron's first Lunabotics robot. PIRATE competed in 2011 placing 5th overall for regolith mined at 0.6Kg.

Design

PIRATE is a tank-style with a single drive motor on each side. The locomotion supports a bucket with a single hinge axis. Linear actuators are used to move the bucket up and down.
